During the Migration period the Christian Church struggled to establish itself in northern Europe. It was most successful when it acknowledged and reinterpreted the old customs and traditions. The Roman-style cross represents the new religion, and the gripping, struggling, restless animals within the wings of the cross represent the old, symbolizing the union of the two.

Each of the limited edition prints has been entirely handmade by the artist. The final printing, also hand done, was printed by Van Berkom and a printer of limited edition silk screen works.
