In mythology birds have always symbolized spirit and freedom. The spirit symbolized here is made up of two parts, male and female, shadow and light, but in the end, one.

"The meaning of the interlace that pervades so much of my ornamental art eluded me, but perhaps it is something in motion, spiritual vitality, energy. The Dakota Indian called it "s'kan, taku s'kan s'kan"; the Tao said, "Stand before it and there is no beginning. Follow it and there is no end."

Each of the limited edition prints has been entirely handmade by the artist. The final printing, also hand done, was printed by Van Berkom and a printer of limited edition silk screen works.
