Care of Artwork:

All artwork, whether original or digital, needs to be taken care of. Following these procedures, prints and originals will last a lifetime.

1. Never expose artwork to direct sunlight. Modern pigments are being constantly updated to increase their light-fastness, but many colors will still fade when exposed to ultra-violet rays. Special museum glass has UV protective coatings, but is expensive. In most cases, just making sure the art is hung where the sun will not shine directly on it is precaution enough.

2. Safeguard artwork from climate extremes. All prints and originals from Norrona Studio are on high quality, acid-free archival paper. The natural fibers of the paper and canvas will last many years if kept in a moderate environment comfortable to humans. Never store art in garages, attics, or storage lockers where extreme heat, cold or moisture can attack the paper.

3. Frame with archival materials. Be sure the mat and backing that will touch your art is acid-free. Cardboard and other papers will cause discoloration to the mat and paper that can ruin a painting over time. Most art grade foam-core backing and mat board are acid-free on the side that touches your art (the colored side of most mat board is not acid-free.) Double check with the manufacturer if it is not clearly stated on the packaging. For greatest longevity, frame with museum board.
