Never quite adapting to regular life again, in 1922 Sir Earnest Shackleton returned to South Georgia Island with vague dreams of taking up his old adventure. Shortly after his arrival he died of a massive heart attack. At his wife's request, he was buried here, and his grave is still tended by the occupants of the British military outpost on South Georgia.
