The world's biggest icebergs toil down from the huge Antarctic ice cap to the shores of the southern ocean. Not only are they bigger than the Arctic bergs, but Antarctica produces more than six times the number. They calve into the sea, and melt quickly, discharging an average of 1 million tons of freshwater each, along with nutrients they have gathered in their long traverse across the ice sheet.
