"Seal Island Rookerie"
Watercolor framed size 16 x 20"
Price: $220
Like Elephant Island, Seal Island is an inhospitable rock in the midst of the most forbidding waters in the world, yet it supports thriving breeding grounds for fur seals, elephant seals, chinstrap penguins, and the water-bound leopard seals that prey on them. Trained in alpine survival, a team of five scientists lived in a camp on Seal Island from December through February. The scientists studied the breeding habits of the island's population, while NOAA Ship Surveyor tracked the seals and penguins on their foraging trips at sea.
