Elephant seals molting on the abandoned shore of Grytviken, across the bay from the British military outpost on South Georgia Island. The seals molt shortly after giving birth, and they will not move until their molt is complete. The seals fast while they are on the beach, as long as 30 days for females and 90 days for males.
